Surg’X
interlocking nail system

Surg’X offers the first anatomical angle-stable titanium veterinary interlocking nail for the treatment of long bone fractures in small animals.

Interlocking nails represent the “gold standard” in human trauma for long bones, thanks to their numerous biological and mechanical advantages over plates. Their intramedullary insertion, particularly suitable for minimally invasive approaches, preserves soft tissues and vascularization of the periosteum. The mechanical strength in compression, flexion, and torsion of an interlocking nail construct, significantly greater than that of a locking plate construct, is particularly beneficial in the treatment of comminuted fractures.

However, their use in dogs and cats is still not very widespread due to the technological limitations of the products so far offered to the veterinary sector.

Surg’X system incorporates technical characteristics hitherto reserved for human surgery:

Anatomical curvature: Unique patented curvature radius, suitable for the natural curvature of long bones in dogs and cats:

  • Restoration of the anatomical profile of the bones
  • Avoid conflicts with the insertion of the cranial cruciate ligament on the tibia thanks to a more cranial insertion
  • More distal anchorage on the femur, widening of the indications

Advanced Versatile Locking:

  • Angle-stable locking system
  • Several locking options adapted to the type of fracture: 2 medio-lateral screws, 1 cranio-caudal screw
  • Locking holes closer to the extremities: widening of the indications for metaphyseal or even epiphyseal fractures.

Cannula:

  • Control of locking during surgery using a guide pin.
  • Guidance of the nail with a guide pin during its insertion

TA6V anodized titanium alloy:

  • Excellent biocompatibility and high mechanical resistance.
  • Modulus of elasticity closer to that of cortical bone: reduces stress-shielding phenomena, better transmission of stresses between fragments to promote healing.
  • Colored anodization: color coded according to the sizes, better ergonomics

A complete line of interlocking nails to meet all sizes of dogs and cats:

  • Nails Ø 3.5 / 4/5 (short / long) / 6 / 8mm
  • Screw: Ø 2.0 / 2.5 / 3.0 / 3.5

Instruments

Surgical instrumentation for Surg’X interlocking nail insertion

A reliable surgical technique thanks to high-quality and easy-to-use instruments.

The system includes 2 instrument sets :
– “Cats & Small Dogs” set, for nails 3.5 / 4/5 (Lg 70 – 150mm)
– “Medium & Large Dogs” set, for nails 5/6/8 nails (Lg 134 – 234mm)

Main advantages of the system:
– Common platform of instruments between the 2 sets to reduce complexity and stock
– Unique intraoperative locking control system, thanks to the cannulation of the nail and a guide pin. The technique does not require the use of fluoroscopy.
– Targeting system allowing the insertion of locking screws in 2 perpendicular planes.
– Compatibility with less invasive techniques OBDNT and MIO.
– Common color code between implants and instruments.
– Intuitive arrangement of instruments in sterilization boxes

ABOUT US

Surg’X

Expertise and
innovation

With 15 years of know-how and experience in the development of innovative surgical implants and instrumentations for humans, the founder of Surg’X wanted to put his passion and expertise at the service of veterinarians to allow them to benefit from the latest technological innovations.

Our values

Our core values are at the heart of our commitment to you:
Innovation: We are not satisfied with the “state of the art”, and we are dedicated to providing the best solutions to your clinical needs.
Quality in all aspects: product development, manufacturing and customer support. Proximity: Our products are designed for and with veterinarians. We constantly want to improve and expand our offer by interacting with you.

” Made in France ”
Quality

Surg’X strives to offer high quality products according to standards comparable to those of human implants. We only use medical grade materials that meet ISO and ASTM standards. For the manufacture of our products, we only work with subcontractors from the medical sector ISO 13485 certified, and mainly located in France.

R&D AND SCIENTIFIC PARTNERS

Surg’X product
development

Product development quality according
to standards in human surgery

Our products are developed through a long process of design and development according to quality standards quite comparable to those used by manufacturers of human implants. This process includes many phases : definition of user needs, concept research, computer-aided design, prototyping, cadaveric tests, biomechanical tests, industrialization, pre-production manufacturing, before a final phase of pilot clinical study.

Scientific partners

We develop our products for and with veterinarians. It is essential for us to involve veterinarians in our projects throughout their development process, from the definition of user needs, to their clinical evaluation, in order to evaluate from a scientific approach and from the perspective of clinicians, biomechanical performance and clinical aspects of our implants, as well as the ergonomics of our instrumentation before they are put on the market.

To achieve this, Surg’X is supported by a team of 7 French veterinarians, specialists in orthopedic surgery and opinion leaders, from 6 different veterinary health care facilities (public veterinary colleges and private veterinary hospitals). Surg’X interlocking nail is the result of close collaboration between engineers and clinical experts.

Pilot clinical study

The quality of the products we market and the safety of pets are one of our core values. At the end of the pre-clinical trials, we therefore systematically assess the performance of the products through a multicenter pilot clinical study.

Surg’X interlocking nail has been evaluated in 6 evaluating facilities, which have successfully performed 50 surgeries on all sizes of cats and dogs, all types of bones (tibia, femur, humerus and ulna), all types of fractures (from simple to more complex fractures (comminuted non-reducible, epiphyseal)), in first intention cases or plate construct revision cases), and finally using different techniques (ORIF, OBDNT and MIO).

You will find some examples of x-rays of these cases in “Clinical cases” section.

Partners in our image

We have the same requirements in the quality of service of our customers as in the quality of our products and choose to assign the marketing of our products to distributors who share this requirement.

We develop reliable and lasting partnerships with distributors whose teams are in the field day-to-day at your service, who are fully trained in our products and who will be able to provide you with high-level support, through advice and training.

Beyond our home market, France, we have an international strategy and the desire to build a distribution network in Europe and around the world.
